Jeff M. Barron Partner
With clients that include startups and Fortune 100 companies, Jeff’s nationwide IP practice focuses on resolving disputes involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, Internet security, the Stored Communications Act, media law, and complex commercial litigation. Jeff also has a vibrant appellate practice, and has represented clients in various appeals in the Sixth, Seventh, Eleventh and Federal circuits.
Outside of the courtroom, Jeff advises on patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy and electronic security matters. He also crafts IP strategies that go beyond securing patent, trademark and copyright protection and extend into making critical decisions early in the process to maximize protection while minimizing cost. Jeff knows from nearly two decades of experience that properly protecting his clients’ IP and proprietary technology – and safeguarding his clients from external threats – requires a long-term view that doesn’t begin at the courthouse door.
Jeff enjoys learning about his clients’ innovations, and he is valued for his understanding of the complex technologies his practice concerns. With claims valued into the hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, Jeff is known for executing the right strategy and recommendations even in the most difficult circumstances.
Jeff is active in pro bono intellectual property matters and civil and criminal claims. His first pro bono assignment in 1998, as a summer associate at a prior firm in Chicago, was to assist in a challenge of lifetime insurance policy caps for AIDS treatment on behalf of two anonymous plaintiffs and Lambda Legal Defense Fund.
