OVERVIEW

Jeff Barron resolves complicated intellectual property disputes. Jeff thrives when challenged with disputes that are at the cutting edge of technology and the law, and he enjoys digging into complicated technologies and fact patterns. Jeff’s preparation gives his clients the flexibility they need to navigate the troublesome waters of complex IP disputes.

Jeff’s clients include startups and Fortune 100 companies. He represents these clients in disputes involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, Internet security, the Stored Communications Act, media law, and other forms of complex commercial litigation, across the country. Jeff also has a vibrant appellate practice, and has represented clients in various appeals in the Sixth, Seventh, Eleventh and Federal Circuits.

Outside of the courtroom, Jeff advises on patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy and electronic security matters, and he crafts IP strategies that go beyond merely securing patent, trademark and copyright protection. Decisions made early in the product development process can help companies effectively leverage their IP while reducing future costs and expenses. Jeff knows from nearly two decades of experience that properly protecting his clients’ IP and proprietary technology – and safeguarding his clients from external threats – requires such early advice and a long-term view.

Jeff enjoys learning about his clients’ innovations and the complex technologies routinely handled in his practice. When his clients are facing or asserting claims valued into the hundreds of millions of dollars, Jeff is known for executing the right strategy and recommendations even in the most difficult circumstances.

Jeff is active in the community, and he serves as pro bono counsel on intellectual property and civil matters. Specifically, Jeff is pro bono counsel to the Indiana Cancer Wellness Center, a new nonprofit focused on supporting cancer survivors. He also has had long history with TechPoint Foundation for Youth, which seeks to empower underserved youths in Indiana to enter STEM fields. Indeed, Jeff started his pro bono efforts even before he became a lawyer – as a summer associate at a prior firm in Chicago, Jeff assisted a team from Lambda Legal that challenged insurance policy caps for AIDS treatment on behalf of two anonymous plaintiffs.
