By focusing on patent procurement, protection and development as a critical component of his clients’ strategic business plans, Ron takes pride in helping them to maintain and expand their market share and realize ROI. His practice includes counseling clients regarding patent infringement and patent validity issues, drafting patent opinions, and drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and other foreign jurisdictions.
Ron has advised on a variety of patents for the healthcare industry, including nursing and other communications systems and equipment ranging from hospital beds to surgical accessories. Appreciated by clients and colleagues alike for his breadth of technical skill, Ron offers the ability to translate engineering creativity into effective patent protection.
Ron spent three years as in-house intellectual property counsel at Hillenbrand Industries, where he was responsible for procurement and enforcement of all types of intellectual property; he rejoined Barnes & Thornburg after the in-house stint. Prior to law school, Ron worked as an engineer for The Torrington Company, a division of Ingersoll-Rand. During law school, he interned with the Office of Patent Counsel at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and worked as a copyright law research assistant for Professor Kenneth Crews of Indiana University.
