INDIANAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Indianapolis office will host international law firm leaders from 52 countries this week as part of the 2014 Global Meeting of TerraLex, a worldwide network of law firms.
Barnes & Thornburg, a TerraLex member firm since 1992, will showcase Indianapolis and lead discussions about law firm best practices during TerraLex’s annual business meeting at the Conrad Indianapolis. The meetings will highlight the collaborative efforts of member law firms across diverse legal practice areas – and across continents – designed to meet client needs in an ever-expanding business world. A number of practice groups will hold substantive planning meetings.
“It is exciting for Barnes & Thornburg to host an event of this magnitude in a city that has hosted its share of important events,” said Alan Levin, Barnes & Thornburg’s Managing Partner. “It’s especially gratifying for us to welcome attendees from an organization with which our firm has so much history.”
One of Barnes & Thornburg’s distinguished attorneys, Bob Reynolds, was the Chairman of TerraLex from 2003 to 2006. Reynolds currently serves as the Honorary Consul General of Japan in Indianapolis. Current firm partner and Global Services Co-Chairman Pete Morse is on the TerraLex Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.
“Barnes & Thornburg has a remarkable history with TerraLex, stemming from an early understanding of how the world’s economies would continue to intermingle,” TerraLex Chair & CEO Harry P. Trueheart said. “Several of its attorneys, including Bob Reynolds and Pete Morse, have been active members and continue to provide leadership. We are thrilled to be in Indianapolis for our global meeting and to experience Hoosier hospitality at its finest.”
Morse is quick to underscore the firm’s staunch support for TerraLex and highlight the value of the network. “We were one of the early firms to explore an office in China, and we discovered two things,” he said. “First, it was difficult for a law firm to ensure premium quality, depth and service standards from so far away; and second, a China office doesn’t mean much when clients call with issues in Mexico, Thailand and Russia. With TerraLex, we have ready access to lawyers in virtually every U.S. state and 100 countries around the globe that allows us to match legal support to nearly any global need a client might have.”
Morse recounted the dozens of times he personally has called on TerraLex colleagues to help firm clients with issues in Canada, Europe, Africa, South America, Central America, Australia, and all across Asia. “The fact that we know these lawyers personally and interact with many of them with the same regularity as our own Barnes & Thornburg partners provides us and our clients a great deal of confidence that matters will be handled appropriately, nearly anywhere and at anytime.”
In addition to a heavy business agenda, the more than 175 attendees will also have opportunities to experience all that Indianapolis has to offer, including social events at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Indianapolis Zoo’s new International Orangutan Center, and Dallara IndyCar Racing Factory. They also will receive warm welcomes from various leaders, including Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.
