UNCOMMON CULTURE

BTLatinx: Barnes & Thornburg’s talent resource group for our Hispanic and Latinx teammates and allies.

BTLatinx is a source of connection and support for our Hispanic and Latinx (Latinos and Latinas – we prefer to use the all-inclusive Latinx) teammates. It provides opportunities for us to exchange ideas for the advancement and empowerment of our members, both professionally and socially.

Developing practices to drive recruitment and retention

We bring together and amplify our members’ unique perspectives to advance the firm’s commitment to real progress in diversity, equity and inclusion. By advocating for the needs of our members, we help drive practices that result in increased recruitment and retention of Hispanic and Latinx talent – from summer associates to lawyers to business professionals.

“We have fantastic, smart and hard-working Latinx talent at this firm, and we have the full support of the firm to grow and thrive here,” said Katrina Thompson, BTLatinx co-chair. “I have loved getting to know our members as we share our unique stories. I am filled with incredible pride hearing of challenges overcome and tremendous work ethics and motivational drive in our group.”

Empowering Latinx attorneys to do personally meaningful work

We believe that personal fulfillment and professional advancement go hand-in-hand, and encourage our members to make meaningful work part of their career journeys. Our BTLatinx members often come to the firm with significant pro bono experience, continue that work once here, and often times further advance their interest within those organizations by serving in leadership roles.

A few of BTLatinx’s programs and community conversations:

  • Panel discussion with members about their personal and professional paths to practicing law as Hispanic attorneys
  • Written reflections from members sharing their experiences growing up Hispanic
  • Collection of family recipes to honor our heritage in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and Hispanic Heritage Month, and a virtual Cinco de Mayo happy hour
