CHICAGO – Clifford Shapiro, a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Chicago office, has been elected as an inaugural member of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel (ACCEC). The College was established in 2012 and is composed of pre-eminent coverage and extracontractual counsel in the U.S. and Canada, representing the interests of insurers and policyholders. Its members are viewed as authorities on a wide range of insurance, legal and contractual issues; membership is limited and by invitation only.
ACCEC’s mission is to educate all sectors involved in insurance disputes – including the judiciary, legal and insurance professionals, and businesses – on critical topics such as best practices in policy formation and claims handling, developing trends in insurance law, and bad faith.
Shapiro is Chair of the firm’s Construction Law Practice Group and concentrates part of his construction practice on insurance coverage counseling and litigation on behalf of owners, developers, contractors and other parties engaged in construction. The other part of his practice focuses on construction claims and disputes and other complex commercial litigation. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers and of the immediate past President of the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys.
