Barnes & Thornburg Welcomes Jerry Harris as Intellectual Property Partner In Dallas

DALLAS – Barnes & Thornburg has added Jerry C. Harris, Jr. as partner in its Dallas office. Harris is the latest addition to the firm’s expanding Intellectual Property Department, following Kurt Rohde’s move to the Chicago office in early July.

“Jerry can take the most complex IP issues and communicate them in clear – yet persuasive – ways on behalf of his clients’ interests,” said Julia Gard, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. “His practice is incredibly dynamic, especially given his experience representing both patentees and alleged infringers, along with his trademark work. We’re excited to have him on the team.”

Harris’ practice covers virtually all aspects of intellectual property, including patent law, where he counsels clients on issues ranging from invalidity and freedom to operate opinions to domestic and foreign patent preparation, to high-profile patent litigation, among others. This work spans numerous industries, with cases involving polymer composition, pharmaceutical methods of treatment, petroleum exploration, computer software, business methods, and mechanical devices.

He also advises on trademark clearance issues, disputes, infringements, licensing, operations and cancellations, as well as assisting with preparation and prosecution.

In addition to assisting shareholders, boards of directors, and special committees on various IP issues, Harris is a former contract adviser to the NFL Players Association.

“Jerry is a long-time Texan who knows his way around the Dallas market,” said Mark Bayer, Dallas office managing partner. “He will undoubtedly be a welcome addition to our growing presence in the region, and we’re thrilled to have him.”

Harris is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the Texas and Delaware state bars. He earned his J.D. from The Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law cum laude and his B.A. from Texas A&M University.

With more than 700 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from offices in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, New York, Ohio, Texas and Washington, D.C.
