Payton assists clients with patent prosecution and managing patent portfolios. Working in manufacturing and automation gave her insight into how vital patent procurement and enforcement are across various industries.
Prior to joining the Barnes & Thornburg, Payton worked as intellectual property enforcement department intern for a regional law firm in Bangkok, Thailand, where she researched and presented "U.S. Patent and Trademark Law and the Cannabis Industry" to broaden her colleagues' understanding of U.S. IP law. She also researched emerging IP laws and practices in Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) jurisdictions to help partners better advise clients on related matters.
She also gained engineering experience with Patti Engineering. In that role, she developed a field goal tracking system for company promotion at the Manufacturing in America conference and trade show, and assembled and calibrated 90 electronic golf ball dispensers for an entertainment industry client.
While earning her undergraduate degree, Payton was a member of her university’s varsity swimming and diving team, and she studied abroad at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
When Payton isn’t helping her clients understand and protect their IP rights, she enjoys board games and puzzles, as well as reading and traveling.
