OVERVIEW

Laine Cadwallader works with clients to identify and achieve their intellectual property goals. Using her technical background and previous industry experience, she works to understand the larger picture of clients’ innovations and deliver valuable protection of their ideas.

Laine’s practice focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on behalf of clients, as well as overseeing foreign prosecution of clients’ applications. She also counsels clients on patent prosecution strategy, patentability analysis, and portfolio management to deliver robust protection of their IP.

After earning her mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University, Laine worked in the automotive industry, gaining experience in both the upstream design and the downstream manufacturing ends of the development process. During her time as an engineer, Laine dealt with complex manufacturing processes and control systems in manufacturing plants and supplier tooling shops. She also worked on the design of structural components in vehicles, focusing on meeting safety requirements; evaluating computer modeled and physical test results; and overcoming design and manufacturing updates during program launches.

Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Laine gained patent prosecution experience working as a scientific adviser and patent agent while attending the evening law school program at Indiana University McKinney School of Law.
