Daniel W. McGill is retired of counsel in the firm's Indianapolis office. He practiced primarily in the Corporate Department. He concentrated his practice in the public utility, energy, natural resources, and telecommunications areas. He tried numerous rate cases for water, gas, electric, and telephone companies before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

OVERVIEW

Daniel W. McGill is retired of counsel in the firm's Indianapolis office. He practiced primarily in the Corporate Department. He concentrated his practice in the public utility, energy, natural resources, and telecommunications areas. He tried numerous rate cases for water, gas, electric, and telephone companies before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

He handled many other types of administrative litigation including financing proceedings, territorial disputes, accounting authority, acquisitions, depreciation rates, tracking proceedings and rulemakings. He also appeared before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and federal courts. He has been responsible for appeals of utility matters to the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. He participated in trial court litigation in utility matters including service area disputes, condemnations, and customer complaints. Daniel is admitted to the Indiana Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, and the Fifth, Seventh, and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeals. He was recognized in Best Lawyers in America in the Energy Law area and Indiana Super Lawyers in the Utilities area.

He was involved in transactional matters in the utility area, including negotiating wholesale power and gas purchase contracts, construction contracts, private placements, other types of financings, utility supply contracts and acquisitions.

Daniel has been active in a number of professional associations. He is a former chair of the Utility Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association and its Legal Ethics Committee and the Special Committee on Evaluation of Disciplinary Enforcement. Daniel was a fellow of the Indiana and American Bar Foundations. He was a member of the Public Utility and Natural Resources Sections of the American Bar Association, the Energy Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association, and an associate member of the National Association of Water Companies and the American Water Works Association.

Daniel obtained his undergraduate (1972) and law degrees (1974) from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
