Corrine Conway Selected for Barnes & Thornburg 2020 Diversity Scholarship

CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg announced today that it has awarded a 2020 Diversity Scholarships to Corrine Conway, a first-year student at the University of Illinois College of Law. She will work in the firm’s Chicago office.

“I don’t have the proper words to express how excited I am that Corrine has chosen to join us this summer,” said Dawn R. Rosemond, partner and director of diversity, professional development and inclusion. Without question, her academics are incredible. But Corrine also presents so genuine, mindful and kind. She is exactly the type of talent --- no, the type of human being we hope to attract to our firm.”

During her law school career, Conway has served as a volunteer for the Public Interest Law Foundation and Student Legal Relief. She also was a Jumpstart Program participant in 2019. She received her undergraduate degree in anthropology from Marquette University. She graduated from the honors college, receiving the 2019 Klingler College of Arts and Sciences Gold Medal Award.

“I am incredibly excited to be the recipient of the 2020 Barnes & Thornburg Chicago Diversity Scholarship,” Conway said. “I cannot wait to learn from the firm’s immensely talented and intelligent attorneys over this upcoming summer. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work at Barnes & Thornburg because they take diversity seriously by not only recruiting and training diverse and highly qualified professionals, but by providing a truly impressive array of support systems and resources for the people who make Barnes & Thornburg so excellent.”

Conway’s late father, Camille, was a partner in Barnes & Thornburg’s Chicago office and the firm presents an internal diversity award in his honor each year.

The scholarship is open to first-year law students with a demonstrated commitment to positive change on the diversity, inclusion and equity front and to contributing meaningfully to the diversity, inclusion and equity goals of Barnes & Thornburg and the legal profession. Two other scholarships were awarded to students who will work in the firm’s Indianapolis and South Bend offices.

“Corrine is an exceptional first-year law student with impressive academic credentials, including a perfect undergraduate GPA,” said Jonathan P. Froemel, the firm’s hiring partner in the Chicago office. “Her academics are only exceeded by her bright, confident, inquisitive and engaging personality. Her exceptional track record of academic success is further supplemented by extraordinary volunteering efforts and research activities. We are particularly honored to welcome Corrine, as her father, Camille, was a leader in Barnes & Thornburg’s diversity efforts.”

Barnes & Thornburg’s diversity scholarship program is part of the firm’s commitment to diversity. Our vision is to align the business of diversity and inclusion with the business of the firm. Through deliberate programming, engaged sponsorship and the continual internal and external investment of time, talent and resources, the firm is committed to building and sustaining an inclusive, respectful and open culture made up of accomplished individuals of all backgrounds.
