Force Majeure: Construction Industry Faces Impacts from COVID-19

The coronavirus has upended the economy of nearly every country in the world. The construction industry has felt the impacts nationwide as supply chains have tightened and work has been suspended. The term force majeure is typically found in every construction agreement but rarely invoked. The term itself translates to “superior force”. In other words, when superior external forces such as a hurricane or a natural disaster impact a contractor’s ability to successfully complete a construction project in a timely manner.
