Barnes & Thornburg Strengthens IP Practice with Patent Litigator in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg LLP announced today that Anthony Son has joined the firm’s Minneapolis office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Department. Previously, Son was a partner at Andrews Kurth LLP in Washington, D.C.

Son has significant experience representing clients in complex patent litigation cases, with an emphasis on developing and applying strategies to achieve business objectives. His practice spans a variety of industries and technologies, including financial services, semiconductors, telecommunications, business methods, automotive, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and electronics, among others. Son has also represented clients before various district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and in post-grant review proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“Anthony is a talented patent litigator with a wealth of trial experience and substantial knowledge of financial service and technology transaction matters,” said Connie Lahn, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Minneapolis office. “Our firm is committed to the Minneapolis business community as companies are increasingly in need of reliable legal counsel. Anthony exemplifies the character and reputation we offer our clients and we are delighted he is joining the firm.”

Most recently, Son has focused on representing financial and banking institutions on various matters of patent infringement involving electronic imaging, presentation of financial documents, electronic storage, encryption and secure online payment systems, indemnification claims, and other technology and software-related IP issues. He has also been recognized as a Washington, D.C. Super Lawyer for Intellectual Property Litigation (2014-2016).

“Anthony joins our team as a respected litigator with an understanding of complex matters in the financial sector, among other technology areas,” said Felicia Boyd, co-chair of Barnes & Thornburg’s IP Department. “His addition continues our efforts to recruit top-tier IP attorneys who can be great resources to best serve our clients.”

Son’s announcement comes on the heels of other recent high-profile partners joining the firm’s Minneapolis office this year, including intellectual property attorneys Jeff Stone and Scott Rothenberger, and prominent entertainment litigator Lee Hutton.

Son earned his J.D., cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University and his B.S. from the University of Maryland. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, California, and before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and numerous District Courts throughout the United States.

With more than 600 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from 13 offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Delaware, Indiana, Los Angeles, Michigan, Minneapolis, Ohio, and Washington, D.C.
