Barnes & Thornburg Named an Insurance Practice Group of the Year by Law360

Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s insurance practice has been named a 2015 “Practice Group of the Year” by Law360. An article featuring the firm’s Insurance Recovery and Counseling group will be published by Law360 on January 5. The group represents corporate and individual policyholders in analyzing and enforcing their rights under property and liability insurance policies and in disputes with their insurance companies. “It is an honor for us to be recognized with this award,” said Charles P. Edwards, co-chair of the practice group. “It has been a big year for our attorneys, who have worked tirelessly to help our clients achieve positive outcomes.” Law360 selects winners based on the significance, size and complexity of the litigation wins or deals. In 2015, lawyers in the firm’s Insurance Recovery and Counseling Group assisted a client with obtaining one of the larger reported jury verdicts in the county in an insurance coverage case and had several other trial and appellate victories. Successful outcomes have included a $204 million verdict for Simon Property Group, L.P.; a favorable ruling reversing a summary judgment that had been entered against a Minnesota-based construction company, Abhe & Svobora, Inc.; a $2.4 million judgment for the Georgia Operators Self-Insurers Fund; and an appellate victory for Anthem, Inc., in a case of first impression in the Indiana Supreme Court. Barnes & Thornburg’s Insurance Recovery and Counseling Group is comprised of more than 40 lawyers in eight offices throughout the United States. Attorneys in the group have litigated against virtually all major insurance carriers in trial and appellate courts throughout the United States. The award comes on the heels of Edwards and Andrew Detherage, co-chairs of the Insurance Recovery and Counseling Group, also being named Insurance MVPs by Law360 in November.
