Burdick to Lead Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis Office

INDIANAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg LLP announced today that Brian L. Burdick has been named the new managing partner of the Indianapolis office, effective immediately. Former Indianapolis managing partner Robert T. Grand has become managing partner of the law firm.

Alan A. Levin, who has served as firm managing partner since 1997, announced to firm partners earlier this year his decision to step down from his day-to-day management duties. Levin has assumed a new leadership position as chairman emeritus. The leadership transition results from a well-coordinated succession planning process.

The firm’s partners elected Burdick, who joined the firm in 1995 and is a partner in the Indianapolis office, which is the firm’s largest. He practices in the firm’s Governmental Services and Finance Department and will continue to serve clients. He is a member of the management committee.

“Brian is well-equipped to lead the Indianapolis office as it continues to focus on client service, attracting talented attorneys and meeting clients’ needs,” Grand said. “He is an exceptional leader who will bring business savvy and creativity to managing the Indianapolis office’s day-to-day activities. Brian is well-respected by his colleagues and clients alike.”

Burdick served as deputy treasurer of state under then-Indiana Treasurer Marjorie H. O’Laughlin from 1991 until he joined Barnes & Thornburg in 1995.

“It is an honor to be asked to guide our growing national law firm here in Indianapolis and to build on what Bob and Alan have accomplished during their tenures,” Burdick said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to support the needs of our clients and community as we continue our tradition of delivering the highest quality legal services at a greater value.”

Burdick’s governmental affairs and regulations practice includes the representation of public and private clients before state and local government. He is also a registered lobbyist. He also advises commercial and investment banks, money management firms, and registered investment advisors on issues in the tax-exempt marketplace and represents governmental entities, underwriters and credit providers in their various roles in public debt offerings.
