Michelle Mikol is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department in Barnes & Thornburg's Washington, D.C., office and chair of the firm’s Advertising and Marketing Practice Group. Michelle concentrates her practice on trademark, copyright, false advertising and unfair competition matters.
Michelle manages her clients' global trademark and copyright portfolios and works with clients to develop filing and enforcement strategies worldwide. In addition, she represents clients' interests in adversarial proceedings in U.S. courts, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and other U.S. and international tribunals.
With more than a decade of experience, Michelle also counsels clients in complex licensing matters; high-stakes domain name disputes and acquisitions; advertising clearance and claim substantiation matters; trademark and copyright audits; and brand promotion and protection in social media and online spaces.
Michelle represents clients ranging in size from emerging startup companies to large corporations. She has represented clients in a variety of industries, such as e-commerce and Internet-related business; travel-related services; consumer goods; hotel management services; film licensing; motion picture and merchandising; aerospace and defense; banking and finance; pharmaceuticals; food-processing equipment; airport ground support equipment; restaurants; hospital and healthcare services; and cellular and other communications equipment.
Michelle has been included on the Super Lawyers magazine 'Super Lawyers' list in Illinois and Washington, D.C. She is a member of the International Trademark Association's Famous and Well-known Marks Committee and is active in the Washington, D.C., and Illinois legal communities.
After graduating from Georgetown University with a B.A., cum laude, in 2003, Michelle earned her J.D. from the Boston University School of Law in 2006.
