CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg has named first-year law student Ben Morton as a recipient of its 2023 1L Diversity Scholarship. Morton will be a summer associate in the firm’s Chicago office.
Morton is a student at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law and he also is pursuing an MBA from the university’s Kellogg School of Management. He is co-president of the Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center and a member of the JD/MBA Association, OUTLaw and JLSA.
"I am extremely fortunate and excited to have been chosen for the Barnes & Thornburg 1L Diversity Scholarship,” Morton said. “Barnes & Thornburg, as a whole, exemplifies qualities that mean a lot to me, namely that the firm is highly dedicated to working on groundbreaking projects while still preserving the individuality and distinctiveness of each of the attorneys. I’ve been tremendously impressed by the genuine interest and effort the attorneys have shown in getting to know me both professionally and personally.”
A graduate of Williams College, Morton is a founder of Jogg, a food delivery technology and concierge amenity for commercial properties. He also was a law clerk at The Rooth Law Firm in Evanston, Ill., and was a financial analyst at Visa, Inc. in San Francisco. He also completed a summer certificate program at Harvard Business School’s CORe.
“Ben is an outstanding first-year law student with impressive academic credentials and strong entrepreneurial skills,” said Jonathan P. Froemel, Barnes & Thornburg’s Chicago law student hiring partner. “His academic strengths and entrepreneurial spirit are supplemented by his strong networking skills. We are thrilled to welcome Ben to Barnes & Thornburg’s summer program.”
The scholarship is open to first-year law students with a demonstrated commitment to positive change on the diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI) front and to contributing meaningfully to the DEI goals of Barnes & Thornburg and the legal profession.
“We are excited to welcome Ben to the firm as one of our 1L Diversity Scholarship recipients. Students like Ben are the reason why this scholarship exists. We look forward to working with and getting to know him and are honored that he is beginning his journey in the legal profession with us,” said Dawn R. Rosemond, the firm’s diversity partner.
