Charles Becker advises businesses and individuals regarding complex business and tax-related transactions, and advocates taxpayer rights in federal and state tax controversy matters. Clients value Charley’s dedication, responsiveness and ability to explain difficult issues in a way that makes sense to them and their business.

With more than 30 years of experience, Charley focuses his practice on issues relating to business and corporate taxation, partnerships, limited liability companies, trusts and estates, real estate and contracts. 

Charley has dedicated himself to building a robust practice serving corporations and other business entities in the various stages of the business life cycle, including entity formation, acquisitions and divestitures, corporate and tax planning, and corporate governance. A significant portion of Charley’s practice incudes assisting businesses as outside counsel, helping them navigate the challenges of realizing their strategic goals and doing business in today’s complex marketspace.

Charley’s practice also focuses on helping clients resolve complex federal and state audit, collection and other administrative tax controversy issues. Charley draws upon his Master’s degree in tax law and years of experience in private practice to resolve complicated tax issues, including income, estate, property, excise, sales or employment taxes.

In addition, he provides estate planning advice and counsel to high net worth families, including tax strategies for succession planning. 

Notably, Charley served as a former in-house counsel for a privately held telecommunications company. Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, he enjoyed a rewarding private practice. In addition, Charley served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, where he taught English, worked with community leaders to implement various enhancement projects, and met and married his wife.
