Catherine Carpenter: I Am Barnes & Thornburg

I AM...

  • From a large Catholic family and married an atheist – he is the most remarkable person I know
  • An animal lover with three rescues: two German shepherds named Mayhem and Panzer, who we just adopted, and a bichon-poodle mix named Valentine
  • Rusty with American Sign Language, but I still have dreams in which I sign
  • The daughter of an immigrant and a true mutt when it comes to nationalities. Through DNA testing, I discovered I am not Sicilian and I am still trying to cope with it.
  • Not artistic but my recent hobby is pressing flowers and turning them into animal montages
  • Creeped out by sloths – I can’t get past their unusually long arms and algae-ridden bodies
  • A great sous chef and baker, but not an executive chef; too much pressure and I crack
  • A talker and laugher –  I was the kid that teachers always made switch seats
  • A nature enthusiast who loves hiking, camping, visiting national parks, etc. I believe nature heals.
  • A traveler who plans to eat her way through Tuscany this October. Pasta, bread, wine, repeat. Still not coping very well with not being Sicilian.

This profile appeared in the April 2022 edition of I Am Barnes & Thornburg.
