Barnes & Thornburg Names Gabriela Ocampo Serrano as Indy Diversity Scholarship Recipient

INDIANAPOLIS – Barnes & Thornburg has selected Gabriela Ocampo Serrano as its 2021 Indianapolis Diversity Scholarship Recipient. Ocampo Serrano is a first-year law student at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where she is an Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity (ICLEO) Fellow. 

“I am truly honored to be the recipient of the 2021 Barnes & Thornburg Indianapolis Diversity Scholarship,” Ocampo Serrano said. “Having the opportunity to work alongside many of the finest members of the legal profession is incredibly humbling. I am convinced that Barnes &Thornburg’s commitment to diversity is genuine, and I am beyond excited to learn from attorneys who are not only experts in their fields, but who also have a true commitment to the advancement of accomplished individuals of all backgrounds. 

“Everyone at Barnes & Thornburg has already made me feel so welcome, and it is refreshing to know that equity and inclusion is not an afterthought at the firm. I cannot wait to become part of this amazing team this summer,” she said.

A graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Ocampo Serrano earned a bachelor’s degree in global and international studies with highest distinction. 

“We are delighted that Gabriela has decided to join us at Barnes & Thornburg,” said Katie Matsoukas, law student hiring partner for the Indianapolis office. “She impressed everyone she met with her strong academic record, her advocacy around diversity and inclusion, and her compelling personal story.
