Richard prepared and prosecuted patent applications and managed patent portfolios relating to the following technologies:
- Automotive - onboard refueling vapor recovery systems, oil filters, air filters, fuel filters, automotive thermostats, carbon canisters, testers for fueling and cooling systems, automotive pressure testers, fuel caps, capless fuel tank filler necks, vehicle passenger seats, and vehicle exhaust systems;
- Consumer Products - juvenile car seats, playyards, high chairs, strollers, bouncers, booster seats, gates, latches and locks, bassinets, bed rails, drawer slides, housewares, home and office furniture, containers, closures, overcaps, drink cups, prescription packaging, polymeric films, tapes, Oxygen Therapy Units, Oxygen Conserving Devices; and
- Industrial - industrial gas and oil-fired burners, shut-off valves, ratio and flow-control systems, low NOx burners, fiberglass insulation materials and manufacturing systems, corrugated packaging, pipe coatings, electronic packaging hardware, solid bearing slides, cabinets and racks, helicopters, and concrete finishing machines.
Richard attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., where he received a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1980. He worked as an engineer for Xerox Corporation in Rochester, N.Y., before returning to the state to attend Indiana University School of Law'Indianapolis. He received a J.D. from Indiana University in 1984.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and several courts.
