OVERVIEW

An avid and quick learner with a passion for innovation, Craig Leavell has a substantial breadth of knowledge across a range of technology areas. Craig uses that insight to carefully guide and represent intellectual property owners in protecting and enforcing their rights, and in defending those accused of infringing the rights of others.

Craig’s practice encompasses various IP and technology matters, including utility and design patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, unfair trade practices, and contract disputes, with a focus on patent infringement and trade secrets litigation – developed over the course of more than 20 years. He is valued for being able to efficiently digest the science and mechanics behind how and why such technologies work, and explain those complicated facets in more easy to understand terms for clients, courts and juries.

Craig’s experience includes virtually all aspects of IP litigation on behalf of both IP owners and accused infringers, including jury trials, bench trials, preliminary injunction hearings before district courts around the country, as well as appeals before multiple federal courts of appeals. Craig has significant experience with inter partes review (IPR) and post grant review (PGR) trials before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), investigations before the International Trade Commission, mediations, and arbitrations.

Craig is not intimidated by any particular technology. He enjoys learning about new inventions, processes and procedures, which allows him to grow as his clients grow. He provides clients with solid counsel regarding diesel engines and fuel systems, vehicle navigation and infotainment systems, telematics systems, power window motors and safety systems, railroad freight cars, data security, medical devices and methods of treatment, and control systems and algorithms. Craig also has experience advising on CDMA and GSM wireless telecommunication devices, fiber optic communication and distribution equipment, modems, semiconductor designs and processing techniques, image processing equipment and methods, video coding and decoding software and hardware, liquid crystal displays, high-speed and cloud-based printing technologies, and website technologies.

Outside of his IP practice, Craig has always been invested in pro bono work. He finds helping those in need very rewarding, particularly those he has represented in connection with Lawyers for the Creative Arts.
