James R. Vergara is an associate in Barnes & Thornburg's Chicago office and a member of the Intellectual Property Department.
James has experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications directed to complex software and electrical arts. He also has experience in conducting prior art searches, patent mining, and performing patent portfolio due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, James practiced patent law at a full-service IP boutique law firm in Houston, Texas, representing a variety of clients, from startup companies to large corporations.
Prior to becoming an attorney, James worked as a software verification developer for Delphi-Delco Electronics Software Verification Lab, programming test scripts for automotive devices. He also taught English in Wakayama, Japan, through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program.
