DOL's Job Accommodation Network Offers New Online Workplace Disability Accommodation Resources

Employers working to evaluate reasonable accommodations now have additional online resources available. In its recent press release, the DOL has announced a new publicly available resource for employers and employees alike – a Workplace Accommodation Toolkit developed by its Office of Disability Employment Policy-sponsored Job Accommodation Network (JAN).

This toolkit includes such things as general information regarding workplace accommodation and the interactive process, training videos, links to sample accommodation policies and checklists, and links to other helpful resources (such as EEOC guidance documents, resource articles, etc.) Additionally, it provides the link to JAN’s Searchable Online Accommodation Resource (SOAR), which contains information on a host of disabilities and links to outside articles and guidance.

While the toolkit is not a substitute for legal advice on accommodation issues, these quick-hit resources can help employers and employees become familiar with the accommodation process and in potentially identifying accommodations that they had not yet considered.
