Vineet “Vinny” Gauri is a first-chair litigator who applies his nearly two decades of experience as a federal prosecutor to navigate clients through complex disputes and investigations. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), he was a partner at a leading intellectual property firm, where he steered high-stakes patent and trademark cases.

Vinny represents clients in intellectual property litigation, investigations, and white collar matters. Drawing on his significant experience as a cybercrime prosecutor, Vinny also counsels clients on cybersecurity matters, including risk mitigation and incident response.

U.S. Department of Justice Career

As Deputy Criminal Chief and Chief of National Security and Cybercrime of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Vinny oversaw investigations and prosecutions involving cybercrime, national security, violent and organized crime, and narcotics trafficking. He also supervised and led groundbreaking investigations and prosecutions of computer hacking, ransomware attacks, terrorism, espionage, export control violations, and thefts of trade secrets.

Vinny has extensive experience in leading domestic and cross-border investigations, including supervising teams of investigators, financial analysts, and forensic examiners. He has briefed and argued appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and also served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of California.

As a federal prosecutor, Vinny led jury trials in cases involving murder, kidnapping, public corruption, healthcare fraud, money laundering, offshore tax schemes, misbranding of drugs, narcotics trafficking, armed robbery, and sex trafficking. Notably, he delivered the government’s opening statement in the high-profile and successful prosecution of the then-sitting Philadelphia District Attorney for bribery, extortion, and fraud.

Vinny also served as a DOJ-designated National Security Cyber Specialist and Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property attorney. He has litigated and negotiated matters relating to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act with tech companies and universities.

Additionally, Vinny served overseas as the DOJ’s Resident Legal Advisor for Balkans Counterterrorism. While posted overseas, he worked with high-level officials in the United States and foreign governments on terrorism cases and sensitive policy issues, including the repatriation and prosecution of foreign terrorist fighters. Finally, he has trained and mentored judges, prosecutors, investigators, and law students on three continents on cybercrime, white collar crime, trial advocacy, evidence, and national security issues.
