Michael handles all phases of litigation, from factual investigation and written discovery through expert development and depositions, motion practice, and trial. He has defended U.S. and foreign company witnesses at deposition and trial and has taken hundreds of plaintiff, employer, and healthcare provider depositions. He is experienced in identifying, developing, and presenting experts in medicine and science, as well as regulatory, business, and economic matters, across a range of litigation settings, including class certification proceedings, Science Days, and Rule 702/Frye hearings.
Michael also maintains an active pro bono practice focused on constitutional rights cases for incarcerated individuals. He tried and obtained a landmark civil rights verdict on behalf of a client asserting Eighth Amendment rights against cruel and unusual punishment related to solitary confinement in New York — securing the first jury verdict of its kind in that jurisdiction, including an award of punitive damages.
