Associate

Julie Michalski is an associate in the Litigation practice group of Barnes & Thornburg, focusing on product liability, environmental, and toxic tort matters for clients in the chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and energy industries. Her practice centers on the intersection of law and science, with particular depth in matters involving per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other historic and emerging contaminants.

Julie advises clients on risk management and litigation strategy at all stages, from pre-litigation counseling through trial and appeal. She has managed large-scale, complex matters involving PFAS-related toxic tort, medical monitoring, property damage, and natural resource restoration claims, as well as mass actions involving thousands of plaintiffs. Julie also counsels clients on federal and state legislative and regulatory developments related to PFAS, with a focus on medical devices, apparel, and personal protective equipment.

Prior to joining the firm, Julie gained experience across complex commercial litigation, energy regulation, and chemical contaminant matters. She has drafted dispositive motions pre-trial motions, and appellate briefs, and has defended fact and corporate-witness depositions. Julie also brings a background in energy and sustainability policy, having analyzed proposed energy legislation, co-authored research on community solar development, and received the Law360 Burton Award for Legal Writing for her published article on microgrid policy.
