Emily is well-versed in trying jury trials to verdict, having served as both first and second chair before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and in the Circuit Court of Cook County. She is experienced at legal writing, stemming from her journalism degree, and has obtained numerous dismissals and prevailed on multiple motions for summary judgment.
With a devotion to clear communication and proactive defense strategies, Emily aids clients as she guides them through complex litigation. In advocating for her clients, she has taken and defended depositions of professionals, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Emily was an associate at a Chicago-based law firm where she handled a variety of matters involving product liability claims. Earlier in her career, she was an assistant corporation counsel for the City of Chicago. In this role, she was involved in more than 100 federal civil rights and state law lawsuits where she tried several jury trials and was lead counsel in more than 100 depositions.
Emily also gained experience as a student attorney and senior student attorney representing indigent individuals in employment discrimination claims, bankruptcy proceedings, and other complex civil litigation before the Champaign County Circuit Court at the University of Illinois College of Law’s civil litigation clinic.
