Daniel analyzes medical records to determine whether provider charting reflects adherence to or deviation from the standard of care, and he drafts medical summaries and chronologies tracing the course of a patient’s care and treatment. He researches disease processes, diagnosis, and treatment in both inpatient and outpatient settings so attorneys can engage with the medicine directly, and he briefs teams on anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and the procedures at issue in a case. He also identifies, evaluates, and interviews potential medical experts, orders records from providers, and works with attorneys on deposition preparation, interpreting clinical data and helping draft medical lines of questioning.
Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Daniel worked as a legal nurse consultant for two Austin, Texas, litigation firms supporting medical malpractice and personal injury matters.
Daniel began his career as an intensive care nurse at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, where he spent nearly four years in a 40-bed cardiothoracic, medical, and COVID intensive care unit caring for cardiac transplant and cardiac surgery patients and managing advanced life support, including ECMO, IABP, CRRT, and RVAD. He served as a charge nurse, sat on the unit’s process improvement council, and precepted graduate nurses through a 22-week residency program. He has also taught nursing students as an assistant instructor at Concordia University and Austin Community College.
