Barnes & Thornburg Adds Seasoned Derivatives and Financial Services Partner Dino Wu to Corporate Department in New York

NEW YORK – Barnes & Thornburg is pleased to announce that experienced derivatives attorney Dino Wu has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in its Corporate Department. Wu is the latest corporate and financial services attorney to join the firm, closely following the arrival of Matthew J. Michaels.

Wu represents sell-side and buy-side clients, including hedge funds, mutual funds, corporations, banks, and swap dealers, in negotiating trading agreements for derivatives and other financial products. He also assists clients in navigating the related complex regulatory and compliance issues. In addition, Wu advises clients on a wide range of agreements, including those involving derivatives, futures and options, crypto and other digital assets, prime brokerage, margin lending, term commitments, and the custody, netting, and optimization of collateral. He also guides clients through master agreements governing repurchase (repo), securities lending, and securities forward transactions.

“Dino’s depth of experience with numerous financial products and trading agreements – not to mention his extensive background handling a wide spectrum of regulatory and compliance issues – make him a fantastic addition to our team,” said Jahan Sharifi, Corporate Department chair. “Our financial services and asset management clients will benefit immensely from his insightful and innovative approach as they navigate complex transactions.”

“We’re excited to welcome Dino to the firm and look forward to leveraging his strong derivatives background to serve our financial industry clients,” added Robert J. Boller, partner-in-charge of the New York office. “Dino’s addition to our deep bench of seasoned financial services attorneys further establishes Barnes & Thornburg as a go-to firm for highly sophisticated transactional matters both here in New York and across the U.S.”

Wu has extensive experience with virtually all agreements relating to futures and derivatives, cleared and uncleared, including ISDA master agreements, documentation governing swap execution and central clearing, collateral segregation arrangements, credit support annexes and confirmations of equity swaps, options and forwards, credit default swaps, interest rate swaps, foreign exchange swaps, currency options and commodities hedges. He also helps clients comply with regulations relating to futures and derivatives, including the requirements imposed by Dodd-Frank and the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), as well as the various global regulations implementing the Uncleared Margin Rules.

For corporate clients, in addition to interest rate and foreign exchange hedging, Wu advises on equity derivatives transactions, including accelerated share repurchases, forward share repurchases and sales, and call spread and capped call overlays to convertible debt issuances.

Wu earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he was a notes editor for the Harvard Law Review, and his A.B. from Harvard College.

With more than 800 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country.
