Indiana Governor Honors Barnes & Thornburg With Half Century Award

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has awarded Barnes & Thornburg with a Governor’s Half Century Business Award for 95 years of service in the state of Indiana.

Barnes & Thornburg is one of 101 companies and organizations that Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb recognized that have remained in operation for either a minimum of 100 consecutive years or 50 consecutive years and have demonstrated a commitment to community service.

The firm began in 1926 as Seebirt, Oare & Omacht in South Bend, and in 1940 as Barnes, Hickam, Pantzer & Boyd in Indianapolis. In 1965, Seebirt, Oare & Omacht merged with Elkhart-based Cawley & Harman to become Thornburg, McGill, Deahl, Harman, Carey & Murray. That firm subsequently affiliated with three Eastern law firms in 1968 to form a Washington, D.C., firm known as Scribner, Hall, Thornburg and Thompson. In 1982, the firms merged to form Barnes & Thornburg.

“I’m honored to recognize these dedicated, Hoosier business leaders who have created a lasting impact not only on their communities but to the state as a whole,” said Gov. Holcomb. “As we continue to attract new jobs and investment to Indiana, these well-established businesses will set the tone for a Hoosier economy dedicated to hard work, constant improvement and strong community roots. I’m confident these businesses will continue providing great service for the next 100 years and keep Indiana on the path to success for centuries to come.”

Barnes & Thornburg has four offices in Indiana, in Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis and South Bend, and 16 more across the country. Its largest office is in Indianapolis.

With more than 700 attorneys and other legal professionals, Barnes & Thornburg is one of the largest law firms in the country. The firm serves clients worldwide from offices in Atlanta, Boston, California, Chicago, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Minneapolis, New York, Ohio, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, Texas and Washington, D.C.
