CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg has added Megan New as a partner in its Chicago office. New joins the firm's Intellectual Property Department and focuses on complex litigation related to trademark and patent infringement, false advertising and trade secret misappropriation.
New has extensive trial experience and has secured hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for her clients. She also has a proven track record in dealing with emergency injunctive matters and has successfully obtained temporary restraining orders for clients and defended against requests for emergency injunctions. She has argued motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, various discovery motions, privilege-related motions, Daubert motions and Markman arguments. Her litigation experience spans multiple industries and products, including telecommunications, software, apparel, transportation and manufacturing.
“Megan’s litigation experience in the intellectual property space is vast and she’s secured impressive wins for her clients,” said Julia Gard, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. “Megan brings a thoughtful approach to her work and is a strong advocate in protecting her clients’ most valuable assets.”
“Megan is an established litigator in the Midwest and has a deep familiarity with the courts in Illinois, which will serve our clients inside and outside the state well,” said Michael Carrillo, Chicago office managing partner. “This past year, we’ve continued to grow the office and add talent across a variety of practice areas, and we’re thrilled to add Megan to our bench.”
New earned her J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law, cum laude, and her B.S. from Santa Clara University.
