Barnes & Thornburg Adds Experienced Public, Municipal Finance Lawyer

SOUTH BEND – Barnes & Thornburg LLP has bolstered its government finance team with the addition of public and municipal finance lawyer Randolph R. Rompola as a partner in its South Bend office.

Previously a long-time partner at Faegre Baker Daniels, Rompola has substantial experience serving as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel and borrower’s counsel in a wide variety of taxable and tax-exempt public finance transactions. This includes helping clients negotiate incentives for financing and construction of major economic development projects.

“Barnes & Thornburg has a long tradition of serving local government clients across Indiana and the Midwest as bond counsel, and Randy’s addition is a significant boost to that effort,” said Philip J. Faccenda, Jr., managing partner of the South Bend office. “We are excited to welcome him to our firm given his background in these areas, as well as his involvement in so many local community organizations.”

Rompola advises clients and serves as bond counsel on projects involving general obligation and revenue bonds, special taxing district bonds, utility revenue bonds, tax increment financings and economic development bonds. Additionally, he serves as bond counsel in conduit financings for healthcare, educational institutions, senior living and multifamily housing projects and represents public and private clients in economic development matters, including public-private partnership (P3) projects, and real estate and zoning issues.

Rompola is deeply involved in the local community. He is a board member of the United Way of St. Joseph County, the Indiana Soccer Association, the Indiana Soccer Foundation, the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, Inc., the South Bend Education Foundation and the Scholarship Foundation of St. Joseph County. He has been being named to The Best Lawyers in America for public finance law since 2011, including being named Lawyer of the Year in 2014.

He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Notre Dame Law School, where he was symposium editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. He earned a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from King’s College.
