ATLANTA – Stephen Weizenecker, a Barnes & Thornburg partner, has been appointed to Georgia’s Joint Music Economic Development Study Committee by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. The 13-member committee, which will be comprised of both legislators and industry experts, has been tasked with examining the state’s music industry to look for new and innovative ways to ensure its sustained growth.
Weizenecker is a member of Barnes & Thornburg’s Entertainment, Media and Sports Practice Group. He focuses his practice on entertainment-related matters, including production incentives and tax policy advocacy for the film, television, music and videogame industry.
As part of the committee, Weizenecker will examine ways to expand, promote and foster collaboration between the music community and other creative industries and to continue to support and attract the music industry to the State of Georgia.
Weizenecker is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Georgia Governor’s Advisory Commission on Film, Music, and Digital Entertainment; the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Forum on Sports and Entertainment Industries; and the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, of which he is the current chair. He was recognized by his peers as part of GeorgiaTrend Magazine’s Georgia Legal Elite in 2015.
