Angela B. Freeman, Partner at Barnes & Thornburg, will host the 2026 AIPLA Women in IP Law Global Networking event in the firm’s historical office building located in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. This event is open to all intellectual property (IP) practitioners and IP law students. The program will feature a fireside chat with Sharon Barner, retired Chief Administrative Officer and former Chief Legal Officer of Cummins Inc. Sharon’s esteemed 35-year IP career also includes time spent as Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as Senior Partner, Intellectual Property Department Chair, and Executive Management Team member of a leading international law firm.

Attendees should expect a robust and candid discussion regarding the realities of a career in IP, especially for women. The conversation will highlight best practices on how to succeed despite any barriers, and how to successfully identify and leverage the many transitional opportunities available in private practice, government, and corporate spaces. Participants should also come prepared to receive actionable insight and a call to action on how to strategically exercise your power and influence as trailblazers in this profession to intentionally make room and elevate one another. Expect to further consider implementable mechanisms to lawfully move the needle toward parity and true inclusion in this highly-niched and technical field.

Light refreshments and beverages will be provided. Brief tours of our historical lobby and Vault area will also be offered between 5 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. There is no fee for this event, but registration is required. CLE may be available.

Location

Barnes & Thornburg, Fifth Floor Event Hall, 11 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46204
