UNITE HERE Attacks Obamacare

Gerald Lutkus

laborwagesimageUNITE HERE has issued a report this week attacking Obamacare for actually making wage inequality worse. The union argues that the ACA "threatens the middle class with higher premiums, loss of hours, and a shift to part-time work and less comprehensive coverage." The report says that the ACA will "strangle fair competition" and for many America results in a $3 to $5 per hour wage loss or a change in their job to a less than 30-hour per week post. When you wade through the report's strong rhetoric and criticism of the Administration though, you discover that UNITE HERE really isn't upset with Obamacare but rather is displeased that the Administration has refused to allow union-sponsored Taft-Hartley health and welfare plans to participate in the federal subsidy program under the ACA which as of now only benefit the for-profit insurance industry. A copy of the report is available here. Further coverage of the report is available at National Review online  and at FoxNews.com .
