Alex devises strategies for his clients in creating and maintaining comprehensive patent portfolios, assists with preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the United States and foreign jurisdictions, and creates plans to achieve clients’ intellectual property objectives. His practice focuses on protecting inventions in various technologies, including medical devices, software, chemical and materials science compositions, 3D printing, consumer products, and biotechnology.
Alex advises clients on maximizing the value of their patent portfolios to meet their business objectives. In addition to performing due diligence, freedom-to-operate searches, and infringement analyses to assess clients’ business within the global marketplace, he reviews existing pending and granted patent applications to assess breadth of coverage and prepare continuation application to expand patent scope, as appropriate. He also has extensive experience in managing prosecution for foreign patent applications in Australia, Canada, China, Europe and Japan, among others.
Before studying law, Alex worked as a software product analyst and manager at AvePoint, Inc. In those roles, he supervised the development of the company’s Microsoft SharePoint data recovery and storage optimization software solution, and collaborated with general counsel to negotiate and manage multi-year reseller and partnership contracts with hardware vendors.
Alex was an intern for Hon. A. Kathleen Tomlinson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York while earning his J.D. He was also a teaching assistant at the Kilachand Honors College for a course that explored the impact of intellectual property law, biomedical engineering and public health on modern technological innovation.
