Northwestern Law Student Julius Chai Awarded 2024 Barnes & Thornburg Diversity Scholarship

CHICAGO – Barnes & Thornburg announced today it has named first-year law student Julius Chai as a recipient of its 2024 1L Diversity Scholarship.

Chai is a student at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and will join the firm’s Chicago office as a summer associate. At Northwestern, he is a member of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and the High Tech Law Society, and director of communications for the Intellectual Property Law Society.

“I am thrilled to have been chosen as a 1L Diversity Scholar and to be given the opportunity to work alongside a deep bench of passionate and intelligent attorneys,” said Chai. “Every conversation and interaction I have had with the people at Barnes & Thornburg has shown me how genuine their interest in their work and each other is. I am excited to be joining a team with a unique culture that fosters both professional and personal growth and encourages a diverse breadth of projects and backgrounds.”

Chai earned his B.S., with honors, in biomedical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to law school, Chair worked as a junior patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His experience also includes tutoring and mentoring students through the University of Florida’s Student Science Training Program and Mathnasium of Buckhead in Atlanta, GA.
