Vincent P. Liptak is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg's Indianapolis office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Department and focuses his patent practice on pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, polymers and chemicals.

Vincent P. Liptak is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg's Indianapolis office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Department and focuses his patent practice on pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, polymers and chemicals.

Vince represents clients ranging from universities to start-ups to large-cap publicly traded companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech, agricultural, and chemical industries. He understands the strategic and business value of a robust patent portfolio, and is regularly charged with building and managing large, complex, multinational patent portfolios. Vince understands the budget need of his clients, and has a proven track record of providing excellent service to clients in a budget conscious manner. Vince has represented clients in USPTO proceedings, such as inter partes reviews, and provides technical litigation support. Vince’s combination of superior chemistry knowledge and legal expertise allow him to see issues and develop strategies that get to the heart of the matter at hand. He also has deep experience in drafting and negotiating various types of agreements including technology transfer agreements, partnership agreements and master service agreements; and conducting legal analyses and drafting opinions involving patent related issues pertinent to pharmaceuticals, biological targets, biomarkers, biologics and chemicals.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Vincent served as in-house counsel for several companies including Pfizer Inc. where he served as Corporate Counsel in the company’s intellectual property department. Vince built and managed the global patent portfolio for Xalkori®, a novel small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of ALK dependent non-small cell lung cancer. 

Vincent earned his law degree and MBA degree from the University of San Diego, his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from the University of Chicago, and his B.S. degree in chemistry and math from Loyola University Chicago.
