OVERVIEW

Trust is a key component Sonja Trom Eayrs establishes and cultivates in client relationships. For over three decades, clients have looked to Sonja to walk with them down the difficult path of marriage dissolution. Her clients value her experience and candid advice in helping determine the most effective and efficient course to protect their rights.

Sonja is committed to creating a win-win situation for the family – to help them during a time of grief and turmoil, to protect assets and homes, to help provide a financial safety net, to ensure continued contact with children – so they can emerge from this process and move forward. Her straightforward yet compassionate style guides them through and beyond the turmoil, stress and hurt to a new beginning.

Sonja has advised clients in marital dissolution proceedings with asset values ranging from $1 million to more than $200 million. Her detailed knowledge of litigation and dispute resolution, tax strategy, business valuation and cash flow enables her to help resolve divorce cases while minimizing conflict.

Sonja’s tax background uniquely qualifies her to represent individuals in marital dissolution proceedings involving significant and complex holdings. She advises clients regarding business valuation, property division, custody and parenting time matters, spousal maintenance and antenuptial (prenuptial) agreements and vigorously defends her client's position.

Additionally, as a farmer’s daughter and business manager of her family farm in southern Minnesota, Sonja is uniquely qualified to assist with marital dissolutions involving farming operations. She understands the complexities related to farming, including valuation, cash flow projections and associated family dynamics.

Sonja has helped clients through even the most acrimonious litigation involving financially complex estates and emotionally charged child custody issues. While Sonja has the ability to litigate when necessary, she works tirelessly to provide principled, honest and respectful resolution in even the most seemingly intolerable divorces, often engaging in the use of mediation before resorting to expensive litigation.

Notably, Sonja also serves as a Rule 114 qualified neutral mediator. She brings these skills to bear when negotiating considerate solutions that parallel each client’s often distinct needs.
