A strategic and skilled litigator, Reginald D. Cloyd III focuses his practice on commercial litigation and class action defense. Whether for defendants or plaintiffs in federal or state courts, Reggie is not afraid to employ an aggressive legal strategy when the situation warrants it. As a former student-athlete, Reggie yearns to compete locally, nationally and internationally.
Reggie represents corporate clients in complex contract actions, product liability matters, business torts, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, real estate litigation and data breach litigation. He has deep experience defending employers in actions relating to the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
Additionally, Reggie has defended preference and fraudulent transfer actions related to bankruptcy proceedings. For the first six years of his career, Reggie litigated numerous cases in Cook County, Illinois, and he has litigated a vast array of other types of cases, including more than 20 product liability cases on behalf of a Fortune 500 company.
Reggie has experience taking and defending party depositions in large commercial actions, as well as managing large-scale discovery and production. He has deep experience with legal and compliance software. He is skilled at drafting and filing substantive briefs and arguing key motions, such as motions for summary judgment and motions for temporary restraining orders. He has also first-chaired multiple bench trials.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Reggie was a commercial litigation associate at an AmLaw 200 firm in Indianapolis.
Reggie is passionate about public service and volunteering. He is active within the Indianapolis and Chicago legal communities. He regularly mentors middle school and high school students. Reggie is involved in weekly sessions with the Youth Mentoring Initiative, which provides one-on-one school-based mentoring in Hamilton Southeastern schools outside of Indianapolis. He is also committed to improving diversity within the legal profession and has been involved with numerous bar diversity events and committees.
