Monica Payne brings over 20 years of experience in the Human Resources field, working across multiple professional services industries, to Barnes & Thornburg. She has a natural aptitude for helping individuals thrive in their roles, by helping them understand what they bring to the table and how to enhance their skills, which in turn benefits the entire business organization.
Monica provides strategic oversight and leadership in the areas of employee relations, coaching and development, recruiting and staffing, compensation and benefits, and labor relations.
Most recently, with the City of Indianapolis and Marion County, Monica was responsible for policy development, administration, and evaluation for the Human Resources Division. In addition to supporting all HR-related needs, she launched a leadership development program for middle management to strengthen the internal talent pipeline and enhance business operations.
Prior to that role, she worked for Cummins Inc., Rolls-Royce Corporation, and Aon Consulting. She also held the position of Vice President of Human Resources for an affordable housing developer, and led her own human resources consulting practice, HrIntellect, LLC, that specialized in non-profit organizations and small businesses.
