Michael Boulette is a creative and meticulous advocate for clients facing uniquely challenging family situations. Clients seek out Michael because of his considerable experience with high-stakes divorce and family matters and his deep knowledge of family law.
Michael brings his extensive skills to bear on behalf of business owners, public figures, professional athletes, entrepreneurs, C-suite executives, and medical and legal professionals and their families. For these clients, he handles divorces with high and ultra-high net worth estates often including closely-held businesses and family partnerships, intergenerational wealth and trusts, difficult valuation issues, and fraud and concealed assets.
In addition, Michael’s courtroom experience makes him a go-to advisor for clients navigating the complexities of high-conflict child custody cases, which often center on allegations of abuse, alienation, or serious mental illness.
Michael is also among the few family law attorneys who has repeatedly argued cases on his clients’ behalf before Minnesota’s appellate courts – including multiple cases before Minnesota’s Supreme Court.
Beyond helping his clients navigate such complex and private matters, Michael is committed to transforming and improving the practice of family law. He acts as an adjunct professor, teaching the next generation of family law attorneys; serves as faculty at continuing education seminars for judges, lawyers, and mediators; and authors articles, columns, and other resources for family law attorneys, including Minnesota Family Law, the state’s definitive practice guide on divorce, child custody, and family law.
Michael has frequently been cited in the media, appearing in The Wall Street Journal, Fiscal Times, Forbes.com and the Star Tribune on issues of divorce and child custody. His accomplishments have been recognized across the legal community including honors from the Hennepin County, Minnesota State, and American Bar Associations.
