As a first-generation American, Margaret Kim understands firsthand the challenges facing immigrants. Because of her experiences, she has developed a passion for helping immigrants achieve their dreams of living and working in the United States.
Margaret has been working in the immigration law field for nearly five years. On a daily basis as an immigration specialist working alongside attorneys, she is exposed to, and assists clients with, a wide variety of immigrant and nonimmigrant petitions
Margaret works closely with attorneys at Barnes & Thornburg to assist companies of all sizes, colleges and universities, and nonprofit clients in securing nonimmigrant visas such as H-1B extension and transfer petitions, L-1A and L-1B visas for their employees. She has also gained experience on Program Electronic Review Management (PERM) labor certification applications from initiation through the final stages of the process.
For individuals, Margaret has assisted on I-485 applications for both employment- and family-based applicants. Additionally, she has experience on case work involving self-petitioning I-140 immigrant visa petitions such as EB-1A, EB-1B using the Kazarian legal standard, and EB-2 NIWusing the new Dhanasar legal standard for NIW petitions to her clients.
In Margaret’s role, both with her prior law firms in Chicago and Michigan, she learned that it is critical to build strong rapport and connections with employers while clearly and effectively communicating with foreign nationals and their dependent family members. Throughout the years that she has worked in the immigration law field, Margaret has developed valuable client communication skills and has further expanded her network.
Immigration is a complex and ever changing environment. Margaret thrives in expanding her knowledge to help her clients navigate the path they need to take toward their goals.
