OVERVIEW

Dr. Jonathan Hartley brings nearly a decade of laboratory research experience to solving complicated patent-related problems. A skilled patent agent with a technical background that includes biopharma, polymer science, pharmaceuticals and chemical engineering, Jonathan is able to assist clients and colleagues with a wide variety of complex intellectual property issues.

Jonathan drafts and prosecutes patent applications in the U.S. and abroad, as well as conducts patentability and freedom-to-operate studies. He assists owners and inventors with completing and submitting patent application documentation, searches for prior art, writing legally enforceable claims of ownership, and revising rejected patent applications if needed. Jonathan serves a broad range of clients, including medical device and pharmaceutical companies, global energy and chemical companies, and universities and start-ups.

With both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemical engineering and a doctorate in bioengineering, Jonathan offers a depth and breadth of knowledge that support him to quickly grasp inventions and appreciate their often distinct commercial potential. Moreover, Jonathan’s experience as a teaching assistant for an undergraduate biotransport course and a graduate level polymer science course taught him how to communicate complicated topics in a manner that is clear and understandable.

Notably, Jonathan is also an author and coauthor in eight peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts. He has experience developing acoustically sensitive liposomes, using bioconjugation techniques to attach peptides and oligonucleotides to poly(N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide) (HPMA), and producing, purifying and characterizing monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic applications.
