Joel Benson is a trusted adviser and consensus builder who counsels business leaders and stakeholders through mergers, acquisitions and other transactions and complex legal issues within the healthcare industry. Joel approaches negotiations with a collaborative perspective by finding solutions that add value to all parties.
With a background in corporate finance and healthcare administration, Joel brings a deep understanding of healthcare operations to the team and tailors his legal advice with a business solution. Joel’s healthcare practice includes advising health systems, ambulatory surgery centers, medical device manufacturers and suppliers, home health agencies, long-term care facilities, physician groups and insurance companies.
As outside corporate and regulatory counsel, Joel helps healthcare clients navigate an increasingly complex environment in which he advises on regulatory risks arising out of financial relationships with physicians and other potential referral sources on matters involving the Stark Law, False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute on deal terms and corporate governance.
An M&A attorney by training, Joel has buy- and sell-side experience with mergers, equity deals, asset acquisitions and joint ventures across a broad spectrum of industries in financial and strategic investments.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Joel was an associate at a global law firm, where he advised on corporate and regulatory matters.
