Christian Exner, a native German speaker who hails from Switzerland, works with the firm’s corporate clients and attorneys to expand business development efforts and facilitate relationships with existing and potential German, Swiss and Austrian clients doing business in the U.S. and overseas.
As business transaction advisor, Christian consults with attorneys in the areas of contract and corporate law, providing focused business insight and support. He serves as a liaison between German, Swiss and Austrian clients and firm attorneys to help advise clients through the spectrum of corporate work.
A trained attorney who has practiced in Europe, Christian is also skilled in advising and guiding clients through large insolvency proceedings and related dispute resolution.
Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Christian spent six years as an attorney with Wenger Platter, a Swiss law firm. While there, he was, among other things, involved with the liquidation proceedings of the former Swiss national airline, Swissair, where he assessed claims and drafted submissions for civil proceedings before courts in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, and the Swiss Supreme Court. He also worked alongside attorneys in Canada and Belgium with regard to insolvency-related civil proceedings in those jurisdictions and advised a range of clients with regard to national and international insolvency matters.
Christian also has experience as a clerk for the District Court of Meilen, one of the larger district courts in the Canton of Zurich. While being a clerk he also served as a chairman of the conciliation authority for lease matters. Before joining the District Court of Meilen, Christian held a traineeship position with the District Court of Horgen, another large district court in the Canton of Zurich.
Christian is licensed to practice law in Switzerland; he is not admitted to the practice of law in the United States.
