Cathy Reed is a paralegal in Barnes & Thornburg's Indianapolis office. She is a member of the firm's Labor and Employment Law Department and provides assistance in the Litigation Department. Cathy has more than 30 years of experience as a paralegal.
Cathy assists Barnes & Thornburg attorneys throughout its offices in employment litigation defense, non-compete and trade secret enforcement and other labor and employment litigation. She has experience drafting pleadings, discovery, interviewing witnesses, maintaining document inventories, preparing case chronologies, summarizing medical records, deposition transcripts and hearing transcripts, proposition research, locating and working with experts and trial preparation. Cathy also has experience managing large electronic discovery projects including participating in massive document and e-discovery review projects. She also has involvement in assisting with state and federal appeals.
Cathy assists attorneys in traditional labor matters including evaluating and ranking arbitrator panels, researching arbitration cases, conducting research and document preparation for union avoidance campaigns, investigation of agency level discrimination charges and drafting position statements.
In addition to her labor and employment experience, Cathy has experience with many other types of complex litigation. For example, Cathy served on a national litigation team that represented a major manufacturer nationally in wrongful death, breach of warranty, and injury suits involving its product. Cathy also served on the litigation team for a government entity in a $1.4 billion contract dispute, and has worked on insurance matters and several class actions.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Cathy worked at VASA Insurance Group from 1985 to 1998, where she dealt with employee benefits, employment law issues and insurance department complaints. She also served as the company's risk manager.
Cathy received her Associate Degree in paralegal studies from the University of Indianapolis in 1985. She is married and has three grown children.
