Bradley J. Walz is an attorney clients want on their side – he is determined and finds creative business solutions to the problems they are facing. Whether negotiating a business deal or settling an intellectual property dispute, Bradley’s motto is that the decision must make business sense.
Bradley helps companies of virtually all sizes monetize, protect and enforce their intellectual property.
On the transactional side, Bradley works with clients to draft a variety of intellectual property-related agreements including trademark, copyright, and patent licenses and assignments; trademark, copyright, and patent purchase agreements; master services agreements, software development agreements; software reseller and distribution agreements; software subscription agreements; software hosting agreements; privacy policies; and website terms and conditions agreements. Bradley also counsels clients on data security and privacy compliance.
On the protection side, Bradley conducts trademark searches, and prepares and prosecutes trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and copyright applications before the U.S. Copyright Office. He advises his clients on foreign trademark protection and has managed global trademark portfolios for companies in the fast food, beer and hops, esports, jewelry, software, and aftermarket engine parts industries. He is also experienced in transferring global trademark portfolios as part of international acquisitions.
On the enforcement side, Bradley knows that it is critically important to understand a business and its potential exposure to liability before getting involved in a dispute or defending a dispute. He represents clients in federal district court involving trademark infringement, false advertising, unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, cybersquatting, and copyright infringement, and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in trademark opposition, cancellation, and ex parte appeals.
Bradley is conscientious in the counsel and advice he provides to his clients. He does not take for granted that his role is to help his clients spend and invest wisely to best care for their business.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Bradley practiced at two Minnesota-based law firms.
Outside of his practice, Bradley is an avid Minnesota sports fan especially of the Vikings – he never misses a game – and the Wild – as played varsity hockey for the University of St. Thomas. Bradley likes to keep active, which is good, because his young daughter definitely keeps him moving.
