Alan B. Feldbaum is retired of counsel in the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg. He is resident in the firm's South Bend, Indiana, office.


Alan B. Feldbaum is retired of counsel in the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg. He is resident in the firm's South Bend, Indiana, office.

Alan has more than 30 years of experience in counseling and assisting clients in the acquisition and disposition of businesses and in financing transactions, including tax-exempt and taxable bonds. He served as counsel to several companies, providing them with a full spectrum of general legal services. He was also regularly called upon to deliver third-party legal opinions in financing and corporate transactions.

Alan served as bond counsel in a wide variety of tax-exempt and taxable financings including economic development and redevelopment projects; manufacturing facilities; non-profit facilities such as colleges and universities, hospitals, retirement communities and other senior living facilities, non-profit fitness facilities and YMCAs; and financing transactions for local government capital projects such as water, sewer, airport, schools and library projects. He has represented underwriters, borrowers, issuers, trustees and credit providers in a variety of tax-exempt and taxable financing transactions. He has also represented indenture trustees in connection with defaulted securities matters.

Alan served as a facilitator for family business planning meetings. He spoke before groups on matters pertaining to business transactions and at state-wide and national seminars dealing with commercial and financial matters.

Alan served as president of the South Bend Regional Museum of Art and the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley. He also served on the board of trustees of the Jewish Federation of North America, on the boards of numerous other charitable and cultural organizations, and was active in many civic fund-raising endeavors. Alan currently serves on the board of the St. Joseph County Public Library.

Alan graduated magna cum laude from Indiana University in 1978, received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1981, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of public finance law, and the 2008 edition of Super Lawyers magazine in the field of bonds/government finance.

Alan is admitted to practice in Indiana and Kentucky.
