An associate in the Los Angeles office, William Choi focuses his practice on complex civil litigation matters with an emphasis on product liability and mass torts. Choi has successfully defended several Fortune 500 companies in complex and high-exposure matters. He has handled his own cases from beginning to end, and is well-versed in virtually all aspects of pretrial case management, including engaging in motion practice, presenting oral arguments, conducting discovery, and taking and defending depositions. Choi earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2017 and his B.A. in business economics from the University of California, Riverside in 2012.
Dr. Amit Datta, a business transaction advisor in the Chicago office, advises on a broad range of domestic and international corporate and commercial matters and represents clients in complex litigation and arbitration proceedings with a focus on intellectual property matters. As part of the firm’s European practice group, Datta provides targeted legal advice and strategic insight for European clients doing business in the United States and U.S. clients doing the same overseas. Datta earned his Ph.D. from Humboldt-University Berlin in 2016, his legal clerkship from Appellate Court Berlin in 2015, attended University Münster for law studies and his 1st state exam in 2010, and attended Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain, for law studies in 2007.
An associate in the New York office, Albert D. Farr focuses his practice on advising clients regarding transactional tax matters and providing buy-side and sell-side tax counsel on various transactions throughout the business life cycle. Farr advises multinational strategic and private equity clients on transaction tax structuring, tax diligence, and a range of domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures and dispositions. He earned his LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law in 2016, his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 2015 and his Master of Accounting/B.S.M. from Tulane University in 2010.
A client relationship specialist in the Indianapolis office, Al Maloof is a dedicated strategic consultant and lobbyist who works closely with Barnes & Thornburg’s government services, compliance, regulatory, insolvency, restructuring, and receivership attorneys, among others. Maloof has worked directly with and supported lawyers and law firms, with a focus on practice group development, engaging in collaborative pitch efforts and regularly assisting with pursuits of government and private sector contracting, procurement, and lobbying opportunities, in key sectors such as architecture, aviation, communications systems, construction energy, engineering, environmental, infrastructure, insurance, public safety, real estate development, seaports, and transportation. He earned his M.P.A. from the University of Miami Graduate School and his B.A. in political science from St. Thomas University.
Soyoung Yang, a legal fellow in the Washington, D.C., office, works with the firm’s attorneys and clients on matters related to international trade, imports, exports, and customs. Yang researches recent laws and regulations that could affect stakeholders in the global supply chain, and she provides counsel on how to smartly adapt to those changes. She also provides guidance on trade and commerce matters regarding South Korean regulatory agencies. Yang earned her Master of Laws from New York University School of Law in 2009 and her Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Law from Ewha Womans University in 2004.
